Q

How do you make a noun plural?

A

By changing the article in front of the noun. Le (“the”; masculine), la (“the”; feminine), and l’ will turn into les. Un (“a”; masculine), une (“a”; feminine) will turn into des.

For example:

[Masculine]

l’objetles objets

un instrumentdes instruments

[Feminine]

***la** télévision *les télévisions

une tabledes tables

Depending on the noun, adding an s, an x, or –aux is added at the end of the noun.

For example:

[Masculine]

*l’objet *⇒ les objets

[Feminine]

la télévisionles télévisions

When the word ends in –eau, an x is added to the end to make it plural.

For example:

le bureaules bureaux

When most word end in an –al, the –al is dropped and is replaced with –aux.

For example:

l’animalles animaux
