When aller is followed by a noun, the proposition à must be used.
Ex. Tu vas à la piscine.
You are going to the swimming pool.
Ex. Ils vont à la montagne.
They are going to the mountains.
Ex. Nous allons _à l’_église.
We are going to church.
MASCULINE NOUNS
What happens to the preposition à when the following noun is masculine (like le cinéma)?
The proposition à and le becomes au.
- Elle va à le cinéma. ⇒ Elle va au cinéma. *
- Vous allez à le parc. *⇒ Vous allez au parc.
NEGATION SENTENCES
How do you turn aller sentences into a negation sentence?
- Place ne or n’ BEFORE the conjugated form of aller (vais, vas, va, allons, allez, and vont).
- Place pas AFTER the conjugated form of aller.
Ex. Je ne vais pas oublier la date.
I’m not going to forget the date.
We’re not going to leave the house.
Nous n’_allons _pas quitter la maison.
Aren’t you going to the café?
Tu ne vas pas manger au café?
