What is a duty of care?
The legal obligation professionals have to safeguard individuals who they care for and support from danger, harm and abuse
How does a duty of care minimise the risk of abuse?
If it is a legal requirement to look after service users then abuse shouldn’t happen
How does person centred planning minimise the risk of abuse?
If a person is at the centre of the care and they feel like an equal partner then they will feel able to report abuse.
As service users are equal team members then workers may be less likely to abuse them.
How does effective record keeping minimise the risk of abuse?
Information can be shared amongst professionals /agencies.

Helps ensure clear and transparent communication between workers and
users and between workers
Encourages users to complain/raise concerns without fear. May help users
and workers feel safe/secure

If the environment is open and honest then the service user will feel comfortable reporting abuse.
All service users’ worries and concerns might be addressed much quicker.

Ensures staff are trained and using the best practice allowing them to
