Universal Declaration of Human rights

- colonists in America wanted independence from England
- on July 4th they gained independence
- the war ended in 1783 and the United States was born

The basic principle of the Declaration was that all men (white land owners) are born and remain free and equal in rights

- it is the foundation of international human rights laws

- his name was taken off of and a representative from France got all the credit
