Pros and Cons of the Internet
Pros:
- global connections
- vast quantities of info and opinion
- anyone can listen
cons:
- reinforces ignorance
- links to less appealing aspects of life (terrorism, poverty, human trafficking)
Foreign Debt
In many cases, money is borrowed to make the country more completive on a global scale. Money is sometimes used for corrupt purposes, but the money should be used to make a country more competitive.
Structural Adjustments
- focus on reducing government spending and improving earnings
- strategies include: eliminating government subsidies on food, reduce spending on health care and education, reduce strict labor and environmental standards

NGO’s argue that innocent citizens should not be required to pay debts they caused by corrupt leaders
The ingenuity gap
- The gap for people’s need for new and innovative solutions
- the developed world can often provide solutions, the developing world cannot
Gender Issues
- gender gap: women are not treated equally
- women are often in poverty more than men because of lack of education, social and cultural expectations, money, and language difficulties
Unions goal
to ensure that globalization does not erode workers rights
Impact of globalization on children
- many children are forces to work instead of go to school
- abuse
- lack of future opportunities
Education of girls
- less likely to be educated in developing countries
- education has a significant impact: lower birth rates, greater enforcement of women rights, improved opportunities for everyone
Violence against women
honour killing for reasons like:
- marrying a person outside their religion
- being gay or lesbian
- desire for divorce
- adultery
- disobeying dress code
