Timeline, what happened?
A
- Germany colonized Rwanda
- Tutsi were considered superior to Hutu by Germans
- Belgium took over control of Rwanda
- there was a lot of corruption
- the Belgiums required forced labor although the Tutsi’s were exempt
- Tutsi’s were required to do the Belgiums “dirty work” (punishing the Hutus)
- The Hutus started to hate the Tutsi’s
- led to civil war and genocide
