Unit 4 - AOS 1 - Skill related fitness components Flashcards
Anaerobic capacity
” The total amount of energy obtainable from the anaerobic energy systems”
- Amount of ATP that can be produced during short/high intensity activity is finite.
Factors effecting it:
- Gender (Males have a ^ muscle mass, strength & capacity of fast twitch fibres)
- Muscle fibre type (^ % of fast twitch increases it)
- Lactate Tolerance (enables athlete to continue at high intensity)
Muscular Power
” The ability to contract the muscles with speed and force in one explosive act”
- Power = Force x velocity
Factors effecting it:
- Force of Contraction (motor unit recruitment, muscle length, frequency of motor unit stimulation)
- Velocity of contraction (muscle length)
Speed
“The measure of the ability to move all or part of a body as quickly as possible”
Factors effecting it
- Muscle Activation (Improved speed (^ ability to recruit motor units through greater speed & frequency of nerve impulses)
- Resistence to fatigue (higher speeds maintained for longer)
Balance
“Ability to maintain equilibrium when stationary or moving”
Static & dynamic
Factors effecting it:
- Vision ( eyes focusing on objects to allow point of reference)
- Proprioception (in joints provide info)
Coordination
“The ability to carry out a harmonious series of movements or motor skills smoothly & efficiently”
Factors effecting it:
- Synchronization (Limbs move in harmony)
- Balance (less coordinated is likely off balance)
Reaction Time
” Is the ability to respond to a stimulus quickly”
- Detects signal, interprets info, decides on course of action, sends info to muscles via CNS, commence movement.
- CHOICE reaction time
- SIMPLE reaction time
Factors Effecting it
- Age (improves until 20 yrs)
- Anticipation (Ability to predict)
Agility
“The ability to rapidly & accurately change the velocity or direction of the body in response to stimuli”
Factors effecting it:
- Reaction time (speed athlete can detect stimuli)
- Coordination (Changing position, velocity and direction)
