Who are Loyalists?
People who support Great Britain.
Who are the Patriots?
People who supported the Colonists; wanted to break away from the British.
Define the Declaration of Independence.
It is constructed idea from Englightenment. Uses step by step to explain the reasons why Colonists wanted to break away from Britain.
Describe the Guerrilla Warfare.
Colonists developed this strategy during The Battle of Lexington and Concord. It means that one would note shoot people face to face but would hide. As in the battle of Lexington and Concord, the Colonists would use this technique, hiding in trees and not shooting the British soldiers until they saw their red coats and the whites of their eyes.
Describe the Treaty of Paris, 1783
Officially ending the Revoulnary War, this document recognized the United States as its own country and set its boundaries.
What was the significance of the battles fought prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence?
It shows the origins of Guerrilla Warfare (the Colonists’ development of new techniques) It also shows the beginning of demands for Independence from Britain, officially starting the war.
How did the Loyalists and the Patriots differ in their viewpoints?
Patriots viewed the British as very powerful and the enemy while the Loyalists would either be neutral, seeing the British as their ally or some were so loyal, they would fight the Colonists.
What impact did Paine’s Common Sense have?
This led to lots of people agreeing with him and the demand for independence from Great Britain increased: changing the view points of the war.
What was the purpose of the Declaration of Independence and why is it still significant today?
The purpose was the reasons why Colonists wanted to break away from Britain: gaining independence. It is still significant today because of the bravery it cost in this document if the Colonists lost the war, all the people who signed the Declaration of Independence would be killed.
What were some advantages of each side during the American Revolution?
Colonists- Guerrilla Warfare, More strategies, relationships with French and Spanish
British- Better Weapons and Land

Who was Paul Revere?
Famous for his horse ride in which he warned the Colonists of the British advancing for the Colonists’ secret weapons during the Battle of Lexington.
Who was George Washington?
Leader of Continental Army. Led many battles into success during the American Revoultion. Some examples are the Battle of Trenton and Princeton and the Battle of Yorktown.
Who was Thomas Paine?
Created 2 books- Common Sense and The Crisis. He used logic to support independence in Common Sense. In this book, he tried to convince people to join the Patriot’s side. The Common Sense book had a big impact later on.
Who was Thomas Jefferson?
Was the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
Who was King George lll?
King during the American Revolutionary War.
Who was Friedrich von Steuben?
Believed on the Patriot’s side; donated weapons, money and etc. Trained the soldiers on the Colonists’ side: became High Officer for the Continental Army.
Describe the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
The Colonists began storing weapons in Concord and the British found out so they tried to them, so they could make no war happen. When the British reached Concord, Paul Revere’s ride became famous: warning the minutemen (the Colonist’s side) that the British were coming.
Describe the Battle of Bunkerhill.
British forces, led by General Howe, advanced up the hill 3 times. The first 2 times were unsuccessful however, the 3rd time was successful because the Colonists ran out of aummunition. Although the British won the conflict, it was a moral victory for the Colonists.
Describe the Battle of Trenton and Princeton.
In both of these battles, Washington performed these battles with the “sneak attack” on the British, at night. Washington snuck into the British’s campus, forcing the British to surrender. It was 2 easy victories for the Colonists.
