- Right storage/delivery
Clean Catch Urine
Clean peri area, res starts peeing into toilet to cleanse urethra, specimen is collected mid-stream.
Used to detect bacteria
24 Hour Urine Collection
All urine collected over 24 hour period except the first void. Collection kept on ice in cooler in bathroom.
Straining Urine
Urine is strained to detect kidney stone. Stone is put in container and sent to lab.
Sputum Specimen
Res rinse mouth with water (Not mouth wash), 3 deep breaths then cough up mucous. Mucous is cultured for evidence of infection or diagnose lung disease. Usually in AM.
Stool Specimen
Use tongue blade to collect from 3 diff areas of bm & place into container. Used to detect blood, bacteria, or parasites.
Stool for occult blood
Use hemoccult slide to detect blood
