What is the function of lipids
1) stuructural components of membranes (determine what gets in and out of the cell)
2) High energy molecule( long term storage)
Why do fats have 2x more energy than carbs
Becuase greater number of C-H Bonds
Are lipds insoluble or soluble/ non polar or polar
-Insoluble important that they don’t diffuse away
-non polar and hydrophobic
What is glycerol made up of
3 carbons and 3 alcohols
What is fatty acid
hydrocarbon tail thats 3-5 carbons long
end with a carboxyl group
Saturated fats
have maximum number of h thus more energy becuase of c-h bonds
found in animal fats and solid at room tempreture
Unsaturated fat
double bond liquid at room tempreture because they bend at double bonds. therfore low melting and boiling point

Glycerol + 2fatty acids make
diglyceride and 2 water
Glycerol + 3fatty acids make
triglyceride + 3 water
