The brain Flashcards
1
Q
Cerebrum function
A
- largest area of the brain where all info is sorted and
interpreted - area of intelligence/consciousness
2
Q
thalamus
A
- sensory relay centre (ex. auditory, visual , touch, pain)
- mild sensory input relayed to cerebrum
- strong sensory input sent to hypothalamus
3
Q
hypothalamus
A
- environmental control (homeostasis)
- receives info from internal organs (afferent)
ex. body temp, resp’n, heart rate, etc - sends outgoing (efferent) thru autonomic NS
- direct contact to hormonal systems via pituitary
- produces releasing hormones controlling secretions of
pituitary
4
Q
Frontal lobe
A
- associative (higher intelligence)
5
Q
Parietal lobe
A
- receives sensory info from skin & skeletal
muscles - associated with taste
6
Q
Temporal lobe
A
hearing (auditory) & sensory speech
