Unit 1 Lectures and questions Flashcards
Define Gross anatomy and name three types
Anatomy you can see with your eyes
1. Regional
2. Systemic
3. Surface
Define Microscopic anatomy and list 2 types
Microscopic Anatomy- anatomy that relies on the use of microscopes in order to study the smallest structures of the body
1. Cytology
2. Histology
Define Cytology
Study of Individual Cells
Define Histology
Study of the microscopic structures of tissues
Define Developmental Anatomy
study of anatomical changes of the body from conception to maturity
Define Comparative Anatomy
study of anatomical similarities and differences between species. Reflects Evolutionary Changes.
List the three types of diagnostic anatomy
- Clinical Anatomy
- Surgical Anatomy
- Radiographic Anatomy
Define Clinical Anatomy
focuses on anatomical features that may undergo recognizable pathological changes during illness
Define Surgical Anatomy
Studies anatomical landmarks important for surgical procedures
Define Radiographic Anatomy
Study of anatomical structures through specific visualization tools (X-Rays, CT, NMR, MRI, ETC.)
List the Structural Levels of Organization
Molecular (chemical) level ->
Cellular Level ->
Tissue Level->
Organ Level->
(Organ) System Level->
Organism
List the 5 Common characteristics shared by all living things
- Excitability(Responsiveness)
- Growth/Differentiation
- Reproduction
- Movement.
- Metabolism and Excretion
Define Responsiveness
Ability of a cell to respond to changes in the environment
Define Growth/Differentiation (3)
- When cells increase in size(hypertrophy)
- When organism increases in size (increases cell numbers)
- Multi-cellular organisms have cells that will eventually differentiate to perform specialized functions
Define Reproduction(3)
- When a single cell divides into 2 or more cells
- Found in tissue, organs, body (hyperplasia)
- Also for the creation of new organisms(meiosis)
