Define growth
Growth is variable across different parts of the body and is an increase in some measured quantity such as height or weight.
Define development
Development is the complex changes that follow an orderly sequence which include an increase in skills and abilities.
Define fine motor skills
Fine motor skills are small movements that involve smaller muscles such as grasping a rattle (3 months) or manipulating and placing toys (12-13 months).
Define gross motor skills
Gross motor skills are larger movements that involve larger muscles such as lifting their head (3 months), or crawling (8 months).
Define milestone
An ability achieved by most children at a certain age
What are the key milestones in infancy?
Sitting up (6 months)
Standing (8-10 months)
Cruising (8-10 months)

What are the two types of grasps in infancy?
Palmer and pincer
Define palmer grasp
Palmer grasp is when an object is placed in the infants palm and they grasp onto it such as a finger or rattle.
define pincer grasp
Pincer grasp involves the infants index finger and thumb to pick up small objects such as food.
