What is nutrition?
The process of obtaining the food necessary for health and growth
The act or process of nourishing or being nourished, utilising food substances
What is malnutrition?
Malnutrition means poor/bad nutrition - when someone is not consuming the correct amount of nutrients required for a healthy lifestyle
What is the double burden of malnutrition?
Double burden malnutrition is someone either having under-nutrition (being underweight and not consuming enough nutrients) or over-nutrition (being overweight and consuming too many nutrients or food)
What is the triple burden of malnutrition?
Triple burden malnutrition includes under-nutrition, over-nutrition and micronutrient deficiency which is where a person lacks a particular nutrient e.g. iron causing a deficiency e.g. anaemia
What and why are there sustainable development goals?
The SDG are goals put in place to not only improve the world environment but also improve global health. They were put in place by the UN to make the world more sustainable by 2030
What are some leading causes of death globally?
Leading causes of death globally include poor diet, high blood pressure (due to too much sodium), high blood pressure (due to too much sugar/glucose) and tobacco (mostly in males)
What was the leading risk factor of death globally in 2017?
Dietary risks, with high blood pressure closely behind (which is also a result of poor diet/dietary risk)
What is morbidity?
The condition of suffering from a disease or medical condition
What is mortality?
Death rate in a population
What is a non communicable disease?
NCD’s are diseases that are not spread through a community and are usually chronic, they can take a lifetime to develop
What is a communicable, maternal, neonatal, nutritional disease?
CMNN’s are diseases spread through communites (e.g. covid), pregnancy complications, malnutrition etc.
