Dietary advice for fats/oils
Humans need some fat in diet - best to get from fats/oils from nuts/seeds/olives/canola. Tropical oils (coconut and palm) are not recommended. Replace saturated fat with monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat
What is a ketone?
Ketone bodies are metabolites that replace glucose as the main fuel of the brain in situations of glucose scarcity. Energy source, cross blood brain barrier, spares glucose in brain
What is the keto diet?
Keto diet is where your body uses different types of fuel, rather than sugar and carbohydrates, the keto diet relies on ketone bodies
Issues and advantageous with keto diet
Issues include dyslipidemia (imbalance of lipids), low intakes of dietary fibre and some vitamins and compliance (hard to follow)
Advantageous: build muscle, weight loss, could help with reducing epilepsy
Modifiable factors to prevent CVD
Things we can change that are commonly related to the diet, good nutrition is an important preventative of CVD, good for long term health
