Undercarriage System Flashcards
What prevents the gear from being raised on the ground?
Electromagnetic locks
What is the function of the shimmy damper?
It moderates rapid left-to-right wheel movement, at high taxy speeds
How does the nose under carriage retract?
forward and extends rearwards.
How does the Nosewheel steering system work?
The nose gear steering interface provides a direct mechanical link to the rudder pedals; this link only occurs when the nose gear is extended; when the nose gear is retracted, or retracting, mechanical contact is lost
What is the Maximum possible steering angle?
The maximum possible steering angle is ± 35°, using rudder pedal (18.3°) in conjunction with asymmetric power and differential braking (16.7°).
What are the two landing gear extension modes?
Normal extension
Emergency extension (controlled by the free-fall system)
How does the Normal Extension work?
Positioning the LDG GEAR lever to the DN position activates the landing gear extension circuitry. This releases the pressure from the nose and main landing gear actuators and extends the retracted actuators. When extension is completed, the landing gear held in the fully extended position by the down lock mechanism.
How does the emergency Extension work?
The emergency release system allows the crew to extend the landing gear manually in case of normal extension system failure. The landing gear emergency handle is located at the cockpit centre pedestal. Pulling out and rotating clockwise the free-fall handle activates the free-fall selector valve, releasing all residual hydraulic pressure in the landing gear lines to the return line
Below what speed is anti-skid protection deactivated?
10kts
What is the drop out speed for anti-lock protection, and why?
30kts, to allow differential braking for steering
When will the anti skid function be DISABLED?
Whenever a wheel is deemed to be locked for more than the locked wheel protection time (up to 3 seconds)
The antiskid function will be disabled on that wheel and the ANTISKID FAIL CAS message will be triggered.
The anti-skid system is UNAVAILABLE when which part of the braking system is being used?
The emergency/parking brake system
What is the purpose of the anti skid protection?
Anti-Skid protection to prevent the main tyres skidding and enable maximises brake efficiency, according to the runway surface.
When is the touchdown protection system deactivated on both wheels?
Speed greater than 35kts or 3secs after WOW has sensed the ground
What is touchdown protection?
Touchdown Protection prevents activation of the brakes in the event of touchdown with pressure applied to the brake pedals.
