Stalling Procedures Flashcards
In relation to ‘height’ what does sufficient to recover mean?
Can be taken to mean Transition Level plus height of ground (rounded to 500 ft in the local area)
What does Max height for configuration mean?
25 000 ft clean or 12 000 ft with flap (this is due to Yaw Damper requirements and limitations) and ‘VMC’ means you must remain 1000 ft clear of cloud following recovery.
When is the Green Circle displayed?
Displayed on the airspeed tape when in the air and below 18 000 ft
How is Green Circle Speed calculated?
1.3 x V(STICK PUSHER)
What is another use for Green Circle speed?
An estimate of the speed for best lift-to-drag ratio.
Explain the LSA Cues?
V(STICK PUSHER) is not displayed and although based on an AoA, typically occurs approximately 5 kt below the top of the red band.
The ‘STALL, STALL’ aural warning occurs at the top of the red band and, if no corrective action is taken and the AoA continues to build towards a stall, the stick pusher is activated, forcibly pitching the nose down.
The SWPS also computes a yellow speed band from the top of the red band plus 3 kt.
An ‘INCREASE SPEED’ aural warning is triggered approximately 10 kt above the yellow Low Speed Awareness (LSA) tape.
The ‘INCREASE SPEED’ aural warning is only available when: Flap 0; Landing gear up and the WINGSTAB switch is in the OFF position.
How do you set up for the stall?
B - Brief the crew on the type of ‘stall’ exercise you plan to fly and at what stage you intend to recover
C - Configure the aircraft if required, using Flaps-Gear-Thrust as a work cycle.
For an exercise in the clean configuration, confirm Flap 0, Gear UP and set thrust to approx. 55% N1, request an adjustment of the speed bug and decelerate to 150 KIAS maintaining level flight.
For an exercise in the approach configuration request Flap 1 and Gear Down, then set thrust to approx 72% N1, request an adjustment to the speed bug and decelerate to achieve 140 KIAS maintaining level flight.
C - Complete PRE-STALLING CHECKS (HASELL) from FRC.
What are the signs for approaching the stall?
Low and decreasing airspeed
High nose attitude
Decreasing Control Effectiveness
SWPS Activation
What happens when the Wingstab Switch is turned on?
The WingStab switch position is passed to the SWPS computer which increases the LSA cues by approximately 15 kt.
What is the clean stall procedure?
Start the exercise S and L at 180 KIAS
Set thrust to ~55% N1 as part of the BCC and allow the aircraft to decelerate to 150 KIAS whilst PAAT to maintain level flight
Complete the lookout turn to clear the exercise area
Select IDLE thrust 30° prior to rollout (i.e. as PM calls ‘approaching heading’)
Once rolled out, PAAT to maintain straight, level and balanced flight
Maintain lookout and TCAS awareness
The PF keeps one hand on the thrust levers
On receiving the aural ‘STALL, STALL’ warning, perform the Phenom SSR
Complete Post Occurrence checklist
What is the approach configuration stall?
Start the exercise S and L at 180 KIAS
Complete BCC
Configure the ac Flap 1, Gear Down. Set ~72% to maintain 140 KIAS
Complete the lookout turn to clear the exercise area
Once rolled out select Flap 3 and set thrust to IDLE.
As the aircraft decelerates PAAT to maintain straight, level and balanced flight
Maintain lookout/TCAS awareness
The PF keeps one hand on the thrust levers and PAAT to maintain level flight
SSR
Explain the Stall in Manoeuvre
Start the exercise S and L at 180 KIAS
Set thrust to ~55% N1 and allow the aircraft to decelerate to 150 KIAS whilst completing BCC
Commence a right hand 30°AoB turn
Use the first 90° of the turn as lookout
Once established in the turn, set Idle thrust
Turn through at least 90° and clear a further 90°
Increase AoB to 45° and backpressure to maintain level
On receiving the aural ‘STALL, STALL’ warning, action the SSR
