What are the thoracioappendicular muscles?
- Pectoralis Major m. 2. Pectoralis Minor m. 3. Subclavius m. 4. Serratus Anterior m.
What is the action of the pectoralis major m. ?
ADduct and medially rotate the humerus
Where does the pectoralis major muscle insert onto?
The lateral edge of the intertubercular groove of the humerus
What is the action of the pectoralis minor m. ?
Stabilizes the scapula
What is the action of the serratus anterior m.?
Protracts the scapula, stabilizes the scapula, rotates the glenoid cavity superiorly
Injury to the Long Thoracic N. results in what?
Paralysis of the Serratus Anterior m.
What does paralysis of the serratus anterior muscle cause?
“winging” of the scapula away from the thoracic wall, which makes abducting the upper limb beyond the horizontal position difficult
What is the action of the anterior part of the deltoid muscle?
flex and medially rotate the humerus
What is the action of the middle part of the deltoid m.?
ABduct the humerus
What is the action of the posterior part of the deltoid m.?
Extend and laterally rotate the humerus
Where does the subscapularis muscle insert onto?
the lesser tubercle of the humerus (anterior aspect)
What is the action of the subscapularis muscle?
Medially rotate and ADduct the humerus
Where does the supraspinatus muscle insert onto?
The greater tubercle of the humerus (posterior aspect)
What is the action of the supraspinatus muscle?
ABduct the humerus
Where does the infraspinatus muscle insert onto?
the greater tubercle of the humerus (posterior aspect)
What is the action of the infraspinatus muscle?
laterally rotate the humerus
Where does the teres minor muscle insert onto?
the greater tubercle of the humerus (posterior aspect)
What is the action of the teres minor muscle?
Laterally rotates the humerus
What are the muscles involved in the rotator cuff?
The supraspinatus, the infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis muscle.
What is the primary action of the muscles involved in the rotator cuff?
to hold the humeral head in the glenoid cavity
Where does the teres major muscle insert onto?
The medial edge of the intertubercular groove of the humerus (anterior aspect)
What is the action of the teres major muscle?
ADduct and medially rotate the humerus
What muscle is the most commonly injured in the rotator cuff?
The supraspinatus muscle
Where is the origin for the long head of the biceps brachii muscle?
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Where is the origin for the short head of the biceps brachii muscle?
The coracoid process of the scapula
Where is the insertion for the biceps brachii muscle?
the radial tuberosity and the antebrachial fascia as the bicipital aponeurosis
What is the action of the biceps brachii muscle?
flex the humerus, flex the forearm, and supinate the forearm
What is the action of the coracobrachialis muscle?
flex and adduct the humerus
Where is the insertion for the brachialis muscle?
ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process
What is the action of the brachialis muscle?
Flex the forearm
What are the anterior compartment brachial muscles?
Biceps brachii muscle, coracobrachialis muscle, and brachialis muscle
What are the posterior compartment brachial muscles?
Triceps brachii muscle and anconeus muscle
Where does the long head of the triceps brachii muscle originate from?
the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Where does the lateral head of the triceps brachii muscle originate from?
the posterior aspect of the humeral body-lateral side
Where does the medial head of the triceps brachii muscle originate from?
posterior aspect of the humeral body-more medial side
Where does the triceps brachii muscle insert?
the olecranon of the ulna and antebrachial fossa
What is the action of the triceps brachii muscle?
Extend the forearm
What is the origin of the anconeus muscle?
lateral humeral epicondyle
Where does the anconeus muscle insert?
Lateral aspect of the olecranon
What is the action of the anconeus muscle?
Extends the forearm
