UE Arthrology Flashcards
What type of joint is the sternoclavicular joint?
Seller Synovial (saddle)
What is the sternoclavicular joint important for?
for reaching things above your head
What two bones are joined by the sternoclavicular joint?
Clavicle and the manubrium of the sternum
What ligaments are involved in the sternoclavicular joint? (4)
costoclavicular ligament, anterior sternoclavicular ligament, posterior sternoclavicular ligament, and interclavicular ligament
What type of joint is the acromioclavicular joint?
Planar synovial
What two bones are joined by the acromioclavicular joint?
clavicle and scapula
What ligaments are involved in the acromioclavicular joint?
- Acromioclavicular ligament 2. Coracoclavicular ligament (made up of the trapezoid ligament and the conoid ligament) 3. Superior transverse scapular ligament
What type of joint is the glenohumeral joint?
Spheroidal synovial (ball-n-socket)
What two bones are joined by the glenohumeral joint?
The glenoid cavity of the scapular head and the humeral head
What ligaments are involved in the glenohumeral joint?
glenohumeral ligament, coracohumeral ligament, and transverse humeral ligament
What makes up the coracoacromial arch?
The acromion, the coracoacromial ligament, and the coracoid process
What does the coracoacromial arch prevent?
Dislocation of the glenohumeral joint superiorly
What typically causes dislocation of the glenohumeral joint?
Excessive extension and lateral rotation
What type of joint is the elbow joint?
hinge (ginglymus) joint
What is the elbow joint joining together?
the humeral condyle, the trochlear notch of the ulna, and the head of the radius
