Types of Volumetric Analysis Flashcards
Introducing a standard solution gradually from a buret into a solution of the base being analyzed or assayed until chemically equivalent amount of each have reacted as shown by some change in properties in the mixture
Direct titration
Preliminary treatment or preparation of the sample before introducing the titrant in the analyte
Indirect Titration
Used in those cases where a substance is to be determined
Indirect Titration
Does not react directly with the standard solution or reacts with it in a non-equivalent amount
Indirect Titration
Indirect Titration uses what reagent
Auxilliary Reagent
Assay of Malic Acid in Cherry Juice
Indirect Titration
Sample is dissolved in an accurately measured quantity of standard solution known to be in excess and titrating the ecess of the latter with another standard solution
Residual Titration / Back Titration
Residual Titration is used when the endpoint of direct titration deviates from stoichiometric point for reasons:
Insoluble samples
Slow rate of reaction of sample with standard solution
Does not have a distinct, shard endpoint
Volatile sample
End point detected does not correspond exatly with the stoichiometric point
Blank Titration
Use of Blank Titration is due to:
problems with the reaction
Small amount of reagent needed to react with additional materials
Performed to estimate or correct titration error
Blank Titration
Carry the exact, same titration procedure in the absence of the analyte
Blank Titration
