Why do we make laws?
-to promote the common good and protect people
Crime
-any behavior that is illegal, because society, through its government, considers the behavior harmful to society
Criminal Law
-group of laws that define what acts are crimes, describes how a person accused of a crime should be tried in court, & how the crimes should be punished
Civil Law
-group of laws that refer to disputes between people
Statutory Law
-a law passed by a lawmaking body
Common Law
-based on common sense
Administrative Law
-law that affects our daily lives
Military Law
-governs the behavior of a people in all branches of the military
Uniform Code of Military Justice
-contains the substantive and procedural laws governing the military justice system
Constitutional Law
-based on the Constitution, is the supreme law of the U.S.
The 5 sources of law are:

The two main types of law are;
