Types of Airspace Flashcards
Where airspace join vertically at a common level, which rules apply at the common level?
At the common level, flights are able to comply with the LESS restrictive class of airspace.
What is an ATZ?
Aerodrome Traffic Zone
Describe an ATZ
Aerodrome Traffic Zone.
Airspace of defined dimensions established around an aerodrome for the protection of aerodrome traffic.
Usually 2 and 2!
(Up to 2000ft and 2/2.5nm in diameter)
What is a CTR?
Control Zone
Describe a CTR?
Control Zone
Controlled airspace which has been further notified as a control zone and which extends upwards from the surface.
Extends to at least 5Nm from the centre of the aerodrome or aerodromes concerned in the directions from which approaches may be made
What is a CTA?
Control Area
Describe a CTA
Control Area
Controlled airspace which has been further notified as a control area and which extends upwards from a notified altitude or flight level.
Must encompass sufficient airspace to contain the flight paths of IFR flights receiving a service taking into account the navigation aids available.
What is a TMA?
Terminal Control Area
Describe a TMA
A Control area normally established at the confluence of ATS routes in the vicinity of one or more major aerodromes. (may encompass a CTA)
What is the minimum height a CTA can come down to?
700ft AGL minimum
Describe an Airway
A control area or portion thereof established in the form of a corridor
10 miles wide (5 miles either side of centreline), 5 miles high.
Describe an ATS Route?
A specified route designed for channeling the flow of traffic as necessary for the provision of air traffic services.
Defined by route specifications which include an ATS route designator, the track to or from significant points (waypoints), distance between significant points, reporting requirements, and as determined by the appropriate ATS Authority, the lowest safe altitude
What is a CDR?
Conditional Route
Describe CDR
Conditional Routes (CDRs) are ATS Routes, usable only
under specified conditions.
There are three types of CDR.
Cat 1 - A route which is permanently plannable during the times published.
Cat 2 - only plannable in accordance with the conditions in daily Airspace Utilisation Plan.
Cat 3 - A route not plannable but may be used tactically at the discretion of ATC.
A CDR may have more than one Category.
What is DRA?
Direct Route Airspace
