Aerodromes Flashcards
Define a Runway
A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing and take-off run of aircraft along its length
Define a Taxiway
A defined path on a land aerodrome established for the taxiing of aircraft and intended to provide a link between one part of the aerodrome and another.
What can taxiways consist of?
Aircraft Stand Taxilane
Apron Taxiway
Rapid Exit Taxiway
Define aircraft stand taxilane
The line onto and off stands.
Define Apron Taxiway
A portion of a taxiway system located on an apron and intended to provide a through taxi route across the apron.
Define Rapid Exit Taxiway
A taxiway connected to a runway at an acute angle and designed to allow landing aeroplanes to turn off at higher speeds than are achieved on other exit taxiways thereby minimising runway occupancy times.
Define Apron
A defined area, on a land aerodrome, intended to accommodate aircraft for the purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo, fueling, parking or maintenance
Define Manoeuvring Area
That part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, excluding the aprons.
Define Movement Area
That part of an aerodrome to be used for the take off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, consisting of the manoeuvring area and the aprons.
Is a runway heading magnetic or true?
Magnetic
What is designated position 1?
Start-up position.
Aircraft initiates call to taxi for departing flight.
Runway-in-use information and taxi clearances given.
What is designated position 2?
Holding Point.
If there is conflicting traffic, the departing aircraft will be held here.
Engine run-up will normally be performed here.
What is designated position 3?
Line-Up
Take-off clearance is issued here, if not practicable at position 2.
What is designated position 4?
Base Leg
Clearance to land is issued (somewhere) here as practicable. Ideally wait until final.
What is designated position 5?
Vacating Runway
Clearance to taxi to apron is issued here.
