AIS Flashcards
Describe standards
Rules that are agreed necessary to be uniformly applied for the safety and regularity of international air navigation
Describe Recommended Practices
Specifications that are desirable for the safety and regularity of international air navigation
What is PBN?
Performance Based Navigation
What is the function of AIS?
To collect, collate, edit and disseminate aeronautical information necessary for the safety and efficiency of air navigation or for interested parties.
What aeronautical information products are there?
AIP including amendments and supplements
Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC)
Aeronautical Charts
NOTAM
Digital Data Sets
What is the INO?
International NOTAM Office
What is a NOTAM?
Notice to Airmen
Describe NOTAM coding
Each allocated a series - identified by a letter and a 4 digit number, followed by a stroke and a 2 digit year so that addressees may check continuity. Then also issued a type.
What are the NOTAM types?
NOTAMN - New Info
NOTAMR - Replacement NOTAM
NOTAMC - Cancellation
Describe the AIP
The AIP transposes SARPS within Annexes into national procedures. Effectively how each country will do what ICAO mandates and recommends.
What are the three parts of the AIP?
Part 1 - GEN General
Part 2 - ENR En-Route
Part 3 - AD Aerodrome Specific
What type of data is in the AIP?
Static Data
Where are differences from ICAO Standards kept?
UK AIP GEN 1.7
Which document is the ICAO Mats Part 1?
Doc 4444
What is a PIB?
Pre-flight Information Bulletin
Describe a PIB?
Edited version of a NOTAM - plain language
Information to cover first leg of flight
Distributed to airfields by AMHS
Duplicated at airfields to allow collection by pilots
When is a NOTAM required?
When information is of a temporary nature & short duration or when significant permanent or temporary changes of long duration are made at short notice.
What are the NOTAM series?
Series A - General, Major International Aeorodromes, En-Route Nav and Comms and UIR airspace.
Series B - Info on FIR airspace restrictions, activities and int aerodromes where IFR is permitted
Series C - Info on VFR only International Aerodromes
Series D - Info on National Aerodromes
Series E - Info on heliports
What are the UK Notified Documents?
AIP
NOTAMs
Does the AIS create information?
No it simply collates and publishes information on behalf of the sponsor.
Which ICAO Annex does AIS come under?
Annex 15
What does an AIRAC update involve?
Changes to local systems
Verification and Correction
Validation
Re-distribution
What is the objective of AIS?
To ensure the flow of aeronautical data and information necessary for global air traffic management (ATM) system safety, regularity, economy and efficiency in an environmentally sustainable manner.
