Type of Study Procedures Flashcards
What are pilot studies?
Small scale version of an investigation which is done before the real investigation is undertaken.
Why are pilot studies done?
To save time and money by showing any faults in the experiment.
What is a single blind study?
a research method in which the researchers do not tell the participants if they are being given a test treatment or a control treatment.
Why do we do single blind studies?
This is done in order to ensure that participants do not bias the results by acting in ways they thing they should act - which avoids demand characteristics.
What is a double blind procedure?
A research procedure in which neither the participants nor the experimenter knows who is receiving a particular treatment.
Why do we use the Double blind procedure?
Utilized to prevent bias in research results.
What is a control group?
A baseline whereby results from the experimental condition can be compared to the results form this one.
Why do we use control groups?
if the actual result was far off then the researcher is able to conclude that the cause of effect was the IV.
