Q

Dative is used when there is no movement. there is just a fact stated. “Wo” is used!!
Many nouns get an “n” added on the end when the nouns is in the plural. However, if the noun usually ends in “s” in the plural, no “n” is added!

in + dem = im
an + dem = am
hinter + dem = hinterm
unter + dem = unterm
vor + dem = vorm

The words we usually used to describe position in the dative are …. liegt (lays), steht (stands), hängt (hangs), sitzt (sits).
Past tense : haben + gestanden, haben + gelegen, haben + gesessen, haben + gehangen.

Ex. The coffee is on the table.

Accusative is used when there is movement. “Wohin” is used!!

an + das = ans
in + das = ins
auf + das = aufs
hinter + das = hinters
neben + das = nebens
über + das = übers
unter + das = unters
vor + das = vors
hinter + den = hintern
über + den = übern
unter + den = untern

The words we usually use to describe position in the dative are …. legt (lays), hängt (hangs), stellt (stands), and setzt (sits). The verb werfen (to throw) and other verbs of movement are also used very often in the accusative.
Past tense : haben + gestellt, haben + gehängt, haben + gelegt, haben + gesetzt.

So, Ex. I put the bottle on the table.

A

Ex. Der Kaffee steht auf dem Tisch. = Dativ

Ich stelle die Flasche auf den Tisch. = Akkusativ
