Local prepositions with landscapes

Question 1

“an,” “auf,” and “in” are only used with certain landscapes / locations! Whenever we answer a question that says “to where?” we use it in the accusative!

"an" is strictly used for going to trips to waters / for movements with a natural end (in accusative) :
Ex. to the ocean.
      to the sea.
      to the coast.
      to the lake.
      to the beach.
      to the river.
      to the bank / riverside / shore.

“auf” is used for going to rural regions, islands / island groups (in accusative) :

“in” is used for going to mountains, deserts, forests, and cardinal points (in accusative) :

Note : “from” is used on the dative.
