Trig Chapter 1 Flashcards
Vertical Angles
Pairs of angles formed from opposite sides of two intersecting lines
Transversal
A line that intersects two or more parallel lines
How many angles are formed when a transversal intersects a pair of parallel lines?
8
Which angles from a transversal system are equal?
- Alternate interior angles (Angles 2&4, 3&6)
- Alternate Exterior Angles (Angles 1&8, 2&7)
- Corresponding angles (Angles 1&5, 2&6, 3&7, 4&8)
1=4=5=8
2=3=6=7
In a transversal system, which angles add up to 180?
Interior angles on the same side of the transversal (3&5, 4&6)
What is the sum of the three angles of any triangle?
180 degrees
Acute Triangle
A triangle whose angles are all acute
Right triangle
A triangle which has one right angle and two acute angles
Obtuse Triangle
A triangle which has one obtuse angle and two acute angles
Equilateral Triangle
A triangle whose sides are all of equal length
Isosceles Triangle
A triangle which has two sides of equal length
Scalene Triangle
A triangle whose sides are all different lengths
Similar Triangles
Two or more triangles which have the same shape but are not necessarily the same size
The angles must be equal and the sides must be of equal proportion
Congruent Triangles
Two or more triangles who have the same shape and size
What trigonomic functions are reciprocals of each other?
Sin and Csc
Tan and Cot
Cos and Sec
Is r^2 greater than, less than, or equal to X^2 and Y^2?
Greater than or equal to
What is the group of all possible numbers of sin and cos?
-1<=sin or cos<=1
Sin or cos is equal to or between -1 and
Sin and cos <=l1l
What is the group of all possible numbers of sec and csc?
Sec and Csc > l1l
Sec and Csc is equal to or less than -1 or equal to or greater than 1
What is the group of all possible numbers of tan and cot?
All real numbers
R^2=X^2+Y^2 is the same as what formula?
Pythagorean Theorem
What are the Pythagorean identities?
Sin^2+Cos^2=1
1+Tan^2=Sec^2
Cot^2+1=Csc^2
What are the Quotient Identities
Tan=Sin/Cos
Cot=Cos/Sin
