Travel, journey, trip
Look at these emails and note the different collocations for travel, journey and trip.
Trip
The word trip is a noun that means “the act of going to another place & returning”:
* I bought this souvenir on my trip to california.
We use the verbs “go on” & “take” with trip:
I took a** long trip** to California last year.
And we say things like ‘day trip’,’Business trip’ & ‘road trip’ to describe different types of trip.* I bought this souvenir on my trip to california.

Journey
Journey is to talk about a trip that does not invlolve physical distance, but instead is a process of learning or self-discovery, as in this:
1. A 10 day vipassana is a kind of spritual journey.
We use it in two specific ways:
One is to talk about a trip that takes a long time, especially if there are either difficulties or discoveries in transit.
For instance:
I hope to take a journey across America by car one day.

Travel
A verb that means “To go to a place and specially one that is far away”
Far can mean long distances within the same country or to other countries.
I have a friend who travels abroad a lot for work.
Travel can also be a noun that relates to the act or activity of travelling in general. For instance:
The future of U.S travel is not likely to include high-speed rails.
A common mistake with “Travel” is confusing it with “Trip”:
I bought this souvenir on my Travel1
to california.
We rarely use ‘Travel’ with ‘my’,’your’, ‘a’ or other dterminers
- I’m planning a trip to the US next year.
- I’m planning to travel to U.S next year.

These collocations are all rather formal ones connected with flying:

I can’t afford to stay in smart hotels. I always have to look for budget accommodation. [very cheap]
I’d advise you to make a reservation before you go. The hotels near the beach are very popular and get fully booked during the summer.
