Transport Systems (Roots and Stems) General. Flashcards
Where are phloem tubes located?
- Location = Found in the roots, stems, and leaves.
What is the movement of xylem vessels?
- Movement = Moves up the plant’s stem.
What are the cells like in xylem vessels?
- Cells = Made from dead cells.
Where is the location of xylem vessels in the vascular bundle?
- Location in vascular bundle = Occurs on the inner side of vascular bundle.
What is the movement of phloem tubes?
- Movement = Moves up and down the plant’s stem.
What are the cells in phloem tubes like?
- Cells = Made from living cells.
Where is the location of the phloem in the vascular bundle?
- Location in vascular bundle = Occurs on outer side of vascular bundle.
What do roots do to keep the plant in place?
- They anchor the plant in the soil and keep it in a fixed position.
What do roots do in terms of transport systems?
- They serve as transport systems, allowing the absorption of water and minerals from the soil to facilitate the plant’s growth.
What does the plant stem do to raise aerial parts above ground?
- It provides structural support so that the aerial parts of the plant are raised from the ground.
What does the stem do to transport materials?
- It has a vascular transport system to transport water and nutrients to all plant parts.
What kind of process is translocation?
Translocation is an active process which requires energy.
Describe vascular tissue for dicotyledonous plants.
- Contains vascular tissue.
Where are vascular bundles found in dicotyledonous plants?
- Vascular bundles are near the centre of the root.
Describes the epidermis for dicotyledonous plants.
- Epidermis has outgrowths, called root hairs, to increase the surface area.
