Transport in plants Flashcards
1
Q
apoplast pathway
A
through the cell walls, continues till is blocked by the casparian strip then takes symplast route
2
Q
the symplast pathway
A
through the cytoplasm of neighbouring cells via the plasmodesmata (osmosis)
3
Q
where does water enter and leave the plants
A
roots (high WP) to the leaves via stomata (low WP)
4
Q
cohesion tension theory
A
water evaporates at the top of the xylem at the leaves, this creates tension to pull the water up
cohesion (water sticks together move upwards like a chain)
adhesion (stick to the walls of the xylem)
5
Q
factors affecting transpiration rate
A
light
temperature
humidity
wind
