Enzymes Flashcards
how does pH affect enzyme activity?
h+ ions and oh- ions disrupt the ionic bonding and hydrogen bonds that hold the enzymes active site in place
factors affecting enzyme activity
temp
pH
substrate conc
enzyme conc
cofactors
non protein substance
inorganic molecules
they help the enzyme and substrate bind together
coenzymes
organic molecules
prosthetic groups
a cofactor tightly bound to the enzyme
inhibition
competitive
non competitive
end product
competitive inhibition
molecules have a similar shape to the substrate and can enter the active site of the enzyme
this prevents/blocks the substrate from binding tocit
non competitive inhibition
molecules bind to an allosteric site on the enzyme altering the active site so substrate molecules can no longer bind to it
end product inhibition
the final product inhibits an enzyme that acts earlier on in the pathway
