Transdiagnostic perspective on compulsions Flashcards
Compulsivity
Behaviour that is continued despite explicit knowledge of profound negative consequences.
Transdiagnostic perspective
Common underlying biological and psychological processes are believed to play a role in the development and maintenance of various disorders. The idea is to focus on identifying endophenotypes to gain insight in the underlying processes, and translation to effective treatment.
Endophenotypes
Psychological/biological phenomena of a disorder, that forms a causal chain between genetic contributions to a disorder and diagnosable symptoms of psychopathology
Examples of transdiagnostic processes
Top down processes: executive functions
Bottom up processes ; habits
Neurobiological basis ; dopamine circuits
