Effectiveness

A

Very effective in increasing desired behaviour. They promote the initiation.

Can also be useful to reduce undesired behaviours, yet the effect size is smaller.

Q

How implementations work

A

The control of the behaviour is allocated from you to the environment.

The behaviour will be automatically activated when you get a cue from that environment.

= strategic automaticity, instant habit.

Q

Conscious planning

A

Both habits and II are mediated by S-R associations, yet this association is established in a different manner. Habits are created by repeating behaviour again and again. II are created due to conscious planning. The if-than plan is your cue.

Q

Two mechanisms that support effectiveness

A

(specified) If-component: Important in heightening the cue accessibility. It enhances the detection of the specified situation. You need to detect the critical situation

Then-component: You can create a strong S-R link, you automatically think about the behaviour if in contact with the if-cue. Automatisation of response
