Neural basis OCD Flashcards
1
Q
Symptom provocation study
A
Expose them to triggers of compulsive behaviour/obsessions inside a scanner. Eg picture of messy suitcase, asymmetrical etc.
Blocked design with neutral and trigger pictures, allow bold signals to be registered. Checking the baseline between triggers/neutrals shows brain activation in compulsive brain
2
Q
Most consistent finding fMRI studies
A
Hyperactivity in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) and caudate nucleus (CN).
Meaning: goal-directed control regions seem to be more active.
3
Q
compared to addiction
A
The circuit that is active in OCD is usually less active in SUD. Opposite results.
