Pharmacology and presentation of Tranexamic Acid?
A
1g:10ml or 500mg:5ml
Antifibrinolytic medicine. It blocks the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, reducing fibrinolysis (breakdown of blood clots) and bleeding.

Indicators of Tranexamic Acid?
PBH
A
- PPH
- Hypovolaemia from uncontrolled bleeding.
- Any other form of bleeding severe enough to cause hypovolaemia requiring 0.9% sodium chloride to be administered IV.

Contraindications of Tranexamic Acid?
A
- Known severe allergy.
- Trauma when TXA will be administered more than three hours after the time of injury. This appears to increase mortality rates, the cause of which is not clear.

Dosing Regimes of Tranexamic Acid?

Adult IV
- 1g IV for an adult, over 1-2mins, once
Paediatric IV
- 200mg per 10kg IV, over 1-2mins, once
