Pharmacology and presentation of Lignocaine?

A

50mg:5ml

  • Local anaesthetic, that blocks the initiation and transmission of nerve impulses by blocking the movement of sodium ions across the nerve cell membrane.

Indicators of Lignocaine?

A
  • SC injection for prophylaxis of pain associated with IV cannulation.
  • SC injection for digital ring blocks for analgesia.
  • lO injection for bone pain associated with fluid infusion via an intraosseous needle.

Dosing Regimes of Lignocaine?

A

SC For IV insertion Adult
- Maximum dose is 200mg, 20ml, inject SC at site of cannulation raise a bleb and wait 1min before cannulation

SC Paediatrics
- max of 3mg per kg

SC Digital Ring Block
- Administer 1-2ml of solution into the the tissue on either side of the web space of the digit

SC Doses may be repeated once after 30mins

IO Adult
- 50mg:5ml, administer over 1-2mins and wait 1 min before infusing fluid
- IO dose may be repeated once after 15mins

IO Paediatrics
- 1mg per kg, dose repeated once at 15mins

- 1-2 mins for IV cannulation.
- 5-1O mins for digital ring blocks.
