Q

How does the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator work?

A

There are 166 items that make you choose between option (a) or (b).
The four pairs they are trying to measure are: Extraversion vs Introversion
Sensing vs Intuition
Thinking vs Feeling
Judgement vs Perception

The final result places you into one of 16 personality types

17
Q

What are 3 criticisms of the MBTI

A

1) the scores are distributed normally and not bimodally (apples to oranges)

2) The measurement isnt reliable = if you were categorized as one type today, and you take the text 5 weeks later, there is a 50% chance you will get a different type

3) The theory of using types for occupationl guidance assumes the MBTI follows the different lines of work but there is no evidence for this

18
Q

How do Typological approaches differ from the three traits approaches?

A

Becasue they can be used to seperate people into specific groups that differ in qualitatie ways from other groups

19
Q

What is a limitation of the typological appraoch

A

related to the use of cutoff scores for placing people into types becasue people who are quite similar can be put in different types (apples to oranges)
