-related to menstruation and tampon use for long periods of time

Symptoms of Toxic Shock Syndrome?
A
- fever
- HA
- sore throat
- Vomiting/Diarrhea
- Generalized rash
- HYPOtension

Prevention of Toxic Shock Syndrome:
all of them
A
- Wash hands before inserting tampon
- Do not use tampon if dirty
- Insert tampon carefully to avoid injury to vagina
- Do not use superabsorbent tampons
- Use sanitary pad (instead of tampon) at night
- Change tampon every 3-6 hours
- Call doc if sudden high temp, vomiting, diarrhea
- DO NOT use tampons ever again if you have a history of TSS
- **The best prevention is to not use tampons at all

- fluids
- electrolytes
- vasoconstrictors
- corticosteroids
- antibiotics

Benzathine penicillin-G

A
- IM injection
- usually a ONE TIME dose
**latent/tertiary: each week for 3 weeks

VIRAL infection

sex?
A
- don’t have sex with lesions
- if no lesions, still use a condom during all sexual exposure

neonatal counseling

- no sex with someone who has active lesions when preg
- if yo have GH, tell doc about it if preg
- if outbreak during labor, pt will need a c-section
