Topic 7 Flashcards
Key functions of the skin
Excretion, Sensation, Protection and Immunity, Regulation of body temp and Synthesis of Vitamin D
Excretion meaning
Sweat glands get rid of waste products and regulate body temp
Sensation
Feelings of touch and heat processed by nerve endings in dermis
Protection and immunity
Skin forms physical barrier. Cells detect bacteria and destroy them. Produce antigens
Synthesis of Vitamin D
Main source of vitamin D is sunlight as it aids absorbing in kidneys and liver
Regulation of body temp when cold
Hair muscles stand up and trap air and blood flow in capillaries decreases
Regulation of body temp when hot
Hair muscles lay flat and relax so heat escapes. Blood flow from capillaries increase because sweat cools skin by evaporation
Location of main brain structures
Diencephalon, Brain Stem,
Cerebellum ON THE LEFT
Function Cerebellum
Balance and Coordination
Function Brainstem
Involuntary Response
Function Frontal Lobe
Speech Production, Problem solving and motor control
Temporal Lobe function
Auditory processing, and memory retrieval
Function of Parietal Lobe
Touch perception and body orientation
Occipital lobe function
Sight and visual interpretation
Draw and label structure of skin
