Topic 5.1 Flashcards
Definition of skill
Skill is the consistent production of goal orientated movements which are learned and specific to a task
Definition of ability
General trait or capacity of an individual that is related to a performance of a skill or task
Difference between agility and skill
Skill is learnt and can be easily controlled while ability is genetically determined
Equation for technique
Technique= Agility+skill
Cognitive skill
A careful thought approach to a task used in decision making and problem solving eg whether to pass or shoot
Motor skills
Movement controlled by muscles with little thinking required eg appropriate pattern to walk
Perceptual skills
Interpret information gathered through your sense to guide actions eg riding a bike turning at correct moment
Perceptual motor skills
Interpretation of an environment followed by a movement skill eg gymnastic routine
Gross motor skills
using large muscle groups to produce large movements
Fine motor skills
series of discrete skills performed in a sequential order
Open motor skills
Performed in an environment with changing factors
Closed motor skills
A skill where external factors dont change
Externally paced motor skill
A skill dictated by the surrounding environment
Self paced motor skill
Skills under the control of the performer
Individual
Skills performed in isolation
Coactive
Skills performed at the same time as others but dont interact
Interactive
Skills performed where others are directly involved
Discrete skills
Skills that have a definitve start and end point (handstand)
Serial skills
Discrete skills linked together (triple jump)
Continuous skills
Skills that cant be easily broken down and performed continuously (pedaling a bike)
Definition of technique
The way in which a sport skill is performed
A skilled performer is
Goal directed and knows how to achieve them
Movements are fluent and everything looks effortless
Higher consistency than novice performer
Higher accuracy and level of control
Skills are learnt and they have a good technique
A novice performer is
Unknown of goals and dont know how to improve
Inconsistent in performance
Less accurate and lower levels of control
Skills aren’t yet and technique isnt polished
Difference between Fleishman’s Physical abilities and perceptual motor abilities
Physical proficiency refers to gross movement/ use of large muscles groups
Perceptual motor abilities refers to a combination of how we make sense of are environment and then act.
