6.1 Statistical Analysis Flashcards
Standard Deviation definition
The spread of data around the mean
How much data falls within + or- -1 around the mean
68%
How much data falls within + or- 2 around the mean
95%
What do error bars do
Graphical representation of data which indicate the error or uncertainty of the data.
What does a small SD mean
A small SD clustered around the mean means all the data is near the mean value so its accurate and reliable
What does a large SD mean
A large SD means data is spread around the mean meaning the data is less reliable
Coefficient of variation definition
The ratio of the standard deviation to the mean as a percentage
100x SD/MEAN
T- TESTS
Require a minimum sample size of 10 and have a normal distribution of SD
For a result to be statistically significant the result must be less than 0.05
T- TEST showing correlation between two things
Calculate the r2 value. Multiply r2 by 100 and you get the overlap of data.
Does Correlation= A relationship
NO IT DOESNT just because there is a correlation doesn’t mean there’s a relationship between the two variables
