Topic 6 - Isomers Flashcards
1
Q
what is an isomer?
A
two molecules are isomers of eachother if they have the same molecular formula but the atoms are differently arranged. this means they have a different structural formula.
2
Q
how could molecules become isomers?
A
- differently shaped carbon chains (e.g. straight chain vs branched)
- functional groups in different places
