Topic 3 - Masses In Reactions Flashcards
1
Q
how do you calculate masses in reactions?
A
- write out the balanced equation
- work out Mᵣ of the reactant and product you’re interested in
- find out how many moles are in the substance that you know the mass of
- use the balanced equation to work out how many moles there’ll be of the other substance
- use this to calculate the mass
2
Q
how do you calculate percentage yield?
A
percentage yield = actual yield / theoretical yield x 100
3
Q
what is a theoretical yield?
A
the mass calculated by the mass of reactant equation
