Topic 3 - DNA Structure Flashcards
1
Q
What is the structure of DNA
A
DNA is:
- two strands coiled up together to resemble a twisted ladder called a double helix
- each strand is made of phosphate and sugar
- strands also contain rungs on the inside which are made up of complementary bases and hold the strands together
2
Q
How does the structure of DNA help it carry out its function?
A
- it can coil up and be able to store lots of information
- allows genes to be carried from parent to child
3
Q
Which rungs go together?
A
Adenine and thymine
Cytosine and guanine
