topic 23:Branches of the radial nerve, functional loss of the radial nerve. Flashcards
about radial nerve
-post. cord & innervates all extensors
-course: post cord, axillary fossa, run b/w lat & med. head of triceps, pierces lateral intermuscular septum above lateral epicondyle, enters cubital fossa (lat-brachioradialis, med-pronator teres, sup-line b/w epidcondyles), thend bifrucates into sup. and deep branches
branches
Deep Branch (Posterior Interosseous Nerve)
Supply: Innervates the extensor muscles of the forearm.
Examples: Extensor carpi radialis brevis, supinator, abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis longus, and extensor digitorum.
Superficial Branch
Supply: Provides sensory innervation to the skin of the posterior aspect of the forearm and hand.
Examples: Supplies sensory fibers to the skin of the dorsum of the hand, including the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger.
functional loss
1.Saturdy night palsy/crutch : compression of radial nerve with axillary artery, like when resting armpit on chairs so can result in wrist drop
2.Wartenberg’s syndrome: wrist is compressed tightly over lat. aspect so superficila branch of radial n beneath the tendinous insertiin of brachioradilais is compressed hence loss of sensation of dorsal aspect of radial fingers & post forearm
