topic 17: palmar arterial branches Flashcards

1
Q

superficial arch

A

-formed by anastomosis b/w large trunk of ulnar a and superfical palmar branch of radial artery
-covered by palmar aponeurosis
-branches: 1.common palmar digital ; b/w metacarpapl
2.proper palmar digital a; b/w MC heads

Topography:

Formation: The superficial palmar arch is primarily formed by the continuation of the ulnar artery, with contributions from the superficial branch of the radial artery.

Location: It lies just beneath the palmar aponeurosis and above the flexor tendons of the fingers.

Branches:
-Common Palmar Digital Arteries: These typically give rise to the proper palmar digital arteries.
-Proper Palmar Digital Arteries: Supply the fingers, running along the sides of the digits.

-Branches to the Thenar Muscles: Supplying the muscles of the thumb.
Recurrent Branches: Contributing to the vascularization of the palm.

Q

deep palmar arch

A

-formed by deep palmar branch of ulnar artery & large terminal branch of radial artery
-deepest
-branches : 1.princeps pollicis a.
2.palmar metacarpal a.

Topography:

Formation: The deep palmar arch is mainly formed by the terminal part of the radial artery, with contributions from the deep branch of the ulnar artery.

Location: It is located deeper in the hand, lying on the metacarpal bones and the interosseous muscles, beneath the flexor tendons.

Branches:

-Palmar Metacarpal Arteries: These run along the metacarpals and anastomose with the common palmar digital arteries from the superficial arch.
-Princeps Pollicis Artery: Supplies the thumb.
-Radialis Indicis Artery: Supplies the radial side of the index finger.
-Perforating Branches: These pass through the interosseous spaces to anastomose with the dorsal metacarpal arteries.
