topic 13 Flashcards
what nerve perforate the subscapular muscle
C6/C7: n. subscapulare
what nerve is located btw m. teres major and m. subscapularis
C6/7/8: n. axillaris
what nerve is going to the triceps
C7/C8/Th1+2n. radialis
how do you begin locating the different nerves of the brachial plexus
Count the first 4 from cervical and thoracic vertebrae caudal->cranial direction (TH1+2, C8, C7, C6)
Then count the next four branchings cranial->caudal
N. Suprascapularis, n. brachiocephalicus,
N. Subscapularis, N. Axillaris
Then count the next from Th1+2
N. Radialis, N. Ulnaris
what nerve is located btw m. subscap and m. supraspinatus, and what nerve is coming out with it
C6/C7: N. Suprascapularis
ALSO
C6/C7: N. brachiocephalicus (going down to m. brachiocephalicus/m. omotransversarius (m. Sternocleidomastoideus)
the most caudal of the nerves in brachial plexus
C8,Th1+2: N. ulnare and median fused together -> split round shoulder joint, here n. ulnare gives off a cutaneous ulna branch going caudally
what to remember when reflecting the limb
keep a large chunk of latissimus dorsi and the pectorals on!
where can you find the musculocutaneal nerve, and what does it innervate
MEDIAL VIEW
Runs btw the biceps muscle and medial head of tripecs. Supplies all the cranial muscles of the brachium
where is ln. axillaris proprius found
btw v. subscapulare and v. thoracica lateralis (most cranial) by root to v. axillaris
where is ln. axillaris accessorius found
at v. thoracica lateralis, ventrally to latiss
find the vein supf. btw deep pectoral and latissimus (with n/a): should be found along it laterally caud to the border of the two mm.
can trace the vein cranially towards it origin at v. axillaris to find the ln. ax proprius
what parts of the scalenus mm. are found in dog
middle and dorsal
name the branches of a. axillaris and what they supply
- a.subscapularis - SUBSCAPULAR
- a. circ. hum. cran. - BICEPS
- a. thoracica externa - PECTORALS
- a. thoracica lateralis - VENTRAL THORACIC WALL
name the branches of the subscapular
- a. circ hum caud
- a. collateralis radialis (run with nerve)
- a. thoracodorsalis (latisimus)
- a. circ scapulae (supra/infraspinat)
how many pairs of spinal nerves does the dog have
36
functions of the spinal nerves of the plexus
originate from the ventral root which only have motor fibers, but later joined by nerves of other functions too, like sensory)
