Q

Driving Page

A

The TMS Driving page is the primary page for Operators, it displays:
− The Traction and Braking effort
- Braking effort is indicated by the number and size of the green
bars, while Traction (power) effort is indicated in Yellow.
− Train Synoptic, indicating:
- Active cab in blue
- Train direction, blue arrow
- Visual representation and state of Pantograph
- Status of VCB, open or closed (Blue rectangle in M1 car)
- Brake cylinder pressures of each bogie
- Colour representation of Park Brake status, bogie symbol
displayed in red when the Park Brakes are applied, white when
Park Brakes released, and flashing red when isolated.
- Major fault notification, the affected car in-filled in red, select car
to display detailed fault information.
− OHLE and Battery Chargers voltage.

Q

Speed Page

A

The TMS Speed page is only available for selection when the ETCS
system has been isolated in the active cab.
− The Speed page is like the Driving page with the addition of a
speedometer.
 In normal operation the speedometer is displayed on the ETCS.
− The train synoptic on the Speed page does not display fault status or
brake cylinder pressures.
• While stationary, all TMS pages may be selected and viewed, however
once the unit is moving and the Speed Page selected it remains
continuously displayed and all other TMS pages cannot be selected until
the unit is stationary again,
− This viewing restriction also applies to fault warning messages and
pop-up windows.

Q

Speed Page when Moving

A

Selecting the Speed page while the unit is moving locks this page into
view and prevents any other page, except the password protected
Maintenance page from being selected.
− Once the unit is stationary again normal TMS page selection
resumes.
(CLASS NOTE: The Bypass icon is highlighted as the ETCS must have
been isolated for the Speed page to be displayed on the TMS.)

Q

Station Page

A

The Station Page is divided into two parts: Door status and an Event list.
− When Door release has been offered the Station Page is
automatically displayed, indicating.
 Door release side is highlighted by the bold blue line.
 Active cab highlighted in blue
 Door and Ramp Status
o Closed or retracted – Black
o Open or extended – White
o Isolated – Sky blue
o Faulty – Red
o Unknown – Yellow
o Train Managers Active Door Control Panel - Red TM
symbol
− The location of a passenger emergency alarm activation will be
indicated as a red spot, or by a red rectangle with white PRM
(Persons of Reduced Mobility) if one of the trailer car passenger
alarms were activated.
 The HIDE CAP / SHOW CAP button toggles off / on the display of
the door state table.

Station Page Events List

A

The lower pane of the Station Page is the Event List.
− The Event table lists all events and faults by:
 Date / Time
 Severity of the event
o L1 Major fault affecting train performance, often requiring the
unit to be removed from service, highlighted in red
o L2 Minor fault that normally does not restrict performance,
units can normally remain in service with minor faults,
highlighted in yellow
o L3 Event occurrence, indicated in blue
 Alphanumeric fault code identification
o Complete list in Crew Operating Manual, Section 6, Fault
Identification
 Description of fault or event
 Car location of the fault or event
 Scroll slider and direction arrows facilitate viewing older or less
urgent messages.

Selecting a fault or event line in the Event Table will highlight the entry,
then select the INFO button to open a pop-up fault or event window
describing the entry in detail and a recommendation to what action is
required by the Operator.
(CLASS NOTE: This is the fault pop up window for the L3 BCU301 fault in
the previous slide, it is categorized as L3 as isolating the brakes of one bogie
is considered acceptable and the reduced braking effort will be automatically
calculated for by the BCU, and the appropriate ETCS reduced braking curves
will be used for all speed warnings presented to the Operator.)
• Selecting the BACK button will return the previous page view.
(CLASS NOTE: L1 Major Faults will automatically Pop Up on the TMS with
an attention tone when the major fault occurs, selecting the BACK button will
return the TMS to the previous screen. The fault entry will remain in the
Event List until the fault is resolved. It will remain available for Operator
viewing by selecting the list entry and selecting INFO.)

Q

TMS Component Fault Code

A

When the highlighted fault car is selected a fault window is displayed
listing all fault codes, in this example a fault with the Door Control Unit
(DCU) or one of its associated doors.
− A minus sign or Back button returns display to the previous screen.

LOOPS Page

A

The Loops Page indicates to the Operator all conditions that may prevent
traction power being applied and conditions that applies the Emergency
Brake or prevents it from being released.
− Each condition is represented by a coloured rectangular block, the
colour of which identifies that conditions state.
 Red – active or open conditions
 Blue – resolved or closed conditions
 Yellow – Bypassed or isolated conditions
 White – When the door loop is open via the CSDE system
 The white border around the BCU condition is normal, this
indicates that the BCU “button” can be selected to bypass certain
brake failures. This function is only available if the “BCU problem”
condition is displayed in red.

• The top circle, Traction Loop, and the bottom, Emergency Brake Loop
must be blue for the train to move, and if the condition cannot be
physically resolved then the condition must be Bypassed or Isolated to
allow the unit to move.
− Most conditions that require Isolation or Bypassing will result in the
unit being withdrawn from service, the passengers detrained at the
next suitable platform and the unit returned to the Depot for repair.

Stationary

A

The TMS Controls page provides access to virtual controls and
commands, and these controls and commands may be divided into three
sections depending upon the size of train.
− Common, applies to all units and functions of train.
− TU1, additional functions which only apply to the unit with the active
cab
− TU2, additional functions which only apply to the other unit of the
consist
− A maximum of two EMU only can be controlled via this menu, when
operating with more than two EMU coupled, e.g., during recovery
operations, only the leading two units can be controlled.

A

Selecting an icon will apply the command and indicate the status of the
command by colour.
− Dark Grey – Not available
− Light Grey – Available but not applied
− Flickering blue – Command selected but no response received back
− Flashing Blue – Command underway but not yet completed
− Steady blue – Command action completed
− Red – Failure
• Commands that change the performance or condition of the unit will
display a warning pop up window confirming that the command has been
actioned and what the revised condition is.
• Commands that activate the Emergency Brake or apply speed
restrictions are not available while the unit is moving e.g., Emergency
Brake test, Reset ETCS System, Washing Plant, Towing Mode, or
Coupling Mode
