Exterior inspection on first approach

A

When walking towards the unit check:
- No “Do not Move” boards attached.
- No one is working on or around the unit.
- Allocation is the correct unit provided

Trailing Cab Inspection

A

Enter the trailing cab first.

NB: If the unit has already been started up, proceed with cab check (point 7)

Cab
1. Enable trailing cab by inserting key and turning to “On” and pressing the “Battery On” button.

  1. While the train systems begin loading on batteries:
    - check that circuit breakers are not tripped;
    - check Emergency Cabinet contents accounted for (A-I) & cabinet is sealed;
    - check handheld radio is present and charging;
    - check all bypass switches are sealed and in correct position (5, 4, 3, 2, 1, UP, UP & AWAY);
    - check Emergency Communication works correctly (back wall switch)
  2. Check 54e for previous entries.
  3. Check radio is cleared, on correct channel and not in use to perform radio check.
  4. Once PIDS screen is fully loaded and cameras are in green, press AUTO START (can also be started via Pantograph/VCB toggle switches or TMS Control TU1 & TU2 menus Panotgraph raise and Close VCB commands).
  5. Verify the start-up process is complete via the TMS Driving & Station pages.
  6. Once unit has started, perform cab checks. Driver MUST check:
    - Correct consist size on TMS;
    - No unexpected TMS fault indications;
    - No unexpected Traction or Emergency Brake Loop conditions are active.
  7. Cab sweep left to right and check the following:
    - Set PIDS.
    - Front & rear camera operation;
    - Horns and headlights (high/low beams);
    - Windscreen wipers & wash;
    - Ditch lights;
    - Depot horn;
    - Park brakes release and re-apply;
    - Screen visor raises and lowers;
    - Cab lights are working and reading light dims;
    - Dash light dims and is reset to full;
    - Fire extinguisher is serviced and current, pressure in green.
  8. The ETCS CSDE (Correct Side Door Enable) system MUST be tested.
    - Press Door release for one side at a time to ensure the ETCS CSDE protection is working correctly and displayed on the TMS screen.
    - If the doors release without actuating the CSDE Bypass switches, it is a serious safety issue & unit may be required to shut down and restart, contact CAF & the Depot Supervisor.
  9. Turn Reverser to Forward to allow ETCS to perform Emergency Loop Test.
    - Initialise ETCS & complete start of mission.
  10. Conduct Static Brake Check with TMS Driving page displayed.

Static Brake Check

A
  • MP above 850 kPa
  • Park Brakes on
  • Reverser to Forward
  • Brake Pipe pressure 550 kPa
  • TMS Driving Page displayed
  • T/B handle to full-service brake
  • Brake cylinder pressures: M-cars 260/270 kPa and T-car 190 kPa
  • Minimum Service Brake pressures are M-car 240 kPa & T-car 180 kPa
  • T/B handle to Emergency
  • Brake Cylinder pressures: M-cars 370/380 kPa and T-car 220 kPa
  • Minimum Emergency Brake Cylinder pressure is 340 kPa and 190 kPa

If below these pressures contact CAF

  • T/B handle to coast and cycle the Reverser. Confirm Brake Pipe pressure increases up to 550 kPa and the Brake Cylinder pressure reduces to 110 kPa (Holding Brake)

External Unit Inspection

A

Conduct external inspection on one side of unit and observe the following:
- Cab doors are locked and secured;
- No air leaks;
- Cables are seated & in good condition;
- Any obvious damage or graffiti;
- Check coupler head is in a straight position;
- If a multiple consist, check coupling between units;
- Verify emergency access panels are closed and wired;
- Confirm all exterior PIDS are displaying correctly;
- Confirm all isolation valves are in the normal position;
- Where a view is available, check for obvious signs of damage to Pantograph and roof equipment.

Continue with external inspection of the other side, heading in direction of trailing cab.

Enter the trailing cab and conduct an inspection of saloon as you walk through to the leading cab.
